That assumes their rules work the same as ours. Besides, it is not impossible.
The form in which humans see me, is merely the form Anima takes when brought into the Lower Domain made human. Although it feels as if flesh and blood, it is not entirely so. You are aware that is how I can move through objects.
However, my existence is also bound to the Lower Domain's needs. I exist because it needs me to exist. Who is to say those of this town are not akin to something of that nature? But perhaps they do not possess their own power, or it is flawed - in which case, would a power source not be necessary to continue to exist?
Both the human mind, which believes in the forms seen, and an energy?
