Gotterdammerung

 [There's a slight rustling noise as the receiver is taken off the hook and apparently placed down. Then, the tapping of a few piano keys, as if attempting to test it. Then, after a few moments, he begins to play this piece. While he's able to keep it up for the most part, there's several times where he falters a bit, clearly out of practice. But he manages to get through the entire piece without many blunders. 

There's silence for a moment before Wilhelm speaks.]

I suppose, all things considering, the season calls for appropriate music. And we could do with better music all around, then what is often played on the radio here or on television. I suppose I merely felt that music of better quality then what we're usually subjected to might be appreciated, even if it was hardly my best and there are those here I'm quite certain could play better.

For life without good music is pitiable, indeed.
