I will admit that it has been a long time since I bothered to set foot in an actual church, let alone needed to. I suppose I only did so today out of curiosity to see what something as willless as the drones would preach on. I was unsurprised to see the focus was on the book of the law, where God is proclaimed to be jealous in one verse and then loving a few verses later.

Tell me. What is your opinion on God? Not merely if you believe in him, but do you consider his existence something to care about? And if I were to give evidence to you that it did, indeed, exist, would that change your opinion at all?

Then why did you say the 'destruction' of Lost Jerusalem if it's not really gone? Or is that just the preferred way of saying what happened to it?

Society as it was was more or less destroyed, and become forgotten. I suppose it would have been more prudent to say that mankind's society as it had been facilitated by living on Earth was destroyed and the planet lost and inaccessible, rather then state there to have been any physical destruction of the planet itself.

So it was the destruction of the society on Earth then...

Since that's the case, then do you think people have any actual desire to go back to Earth other than having a curiosity about it?

And forced them to flee, yes.

Both, but curiosity is certainly the prinary driving factor.

Hmm, if you don't mind me asking, why was the society destroyed? Did something big happen or was it an inevitable situation?

...Ah, I'm sorry if I'm, er, bothering you with all these questions. I'm just, uh, really curious...

They made the same mistake as the ancients and attempted to ascend and reach God after finding one of his artifacts.

This time, not just one society was buried, but nearly all.

It was inevitable only that it was the cost of man's curiosity.

Ah, I can understand that. Something kinda similar happened back home a centaury or two ago and we’ve only just started to rebuild.

Then allow me to indulge in questions a bit and ask what happened.

Apologies for the TL;DR orz

It's a long story, but the short version is that man tried to play with something they shouldn't have and now around half the population along with cities and most previous knowledge is gone and there's now two species, humans and my kind called Evers, that more or less hate each other, with exceptions.

The long version is that around a few centuries ago, a substance called Evergreen was discovered in the ocean which was able to manipulate the genes of living things; it could grant longevity and abnormal abilities but it could also cause death, insanity and other nasty things; it was extremely volatile. Whoever found it tried to keep it a secret but soon the entire world knew about and they wanted some for themselves to use in all sorts of experiments. So that continued for a few decades until the natural source ran out and they then all turned on each other since they wanted more and a world war was started. But it didn’t last long since bombs were dropped in areas near where the Evergreen was being held in each country and they underestimated how volatile it can be; the bombs ended up causing a chain of explosions across the world which wiped everything out, only those who went underground during the war survived.

Now countries are wastelands, and the resulting explosions caused Evergreen to become part of the air and those who ended up being infected with Evergreen before being born became Evers. And due to the explosions, a great deal of knowledge and history is gone, and the only things we really have left are ruins; I barely know anything about my own home and my knowledge on how things were before is very scattered. If you told me a date that’s meant to be important, I would have no idea on what it would be.

Like I said, it was kinda similar since this seemed to have happened out of a combination of curiosity and greed. So hopefully this answered your question, and, um, sorry if I rambled.

LOL, it's cool

And yet, that same curiosity and greed is what has allowed man to advance.

Of course, and that's what is probably pushing us to rebuild again. But it's what also caused everything to be wiped out in the first place. So it's both a good thing and a bad thing, I suppose.

Well, yeah. Not everything is black and white, despite what some may believe.

It's simply convenient to label them that way, though I feel most would be happier without having to label.

I think so too, it would at least remove a lot of unnecessary hate.

Indeed.

Might I ask your name?

Ah, it's April Sinclair, um, nice to meet you. Uh, what’s your name, if you don’t mind me asking?
